When we woke up, we went to the gym, and got a little work out in, then I came home, and did some more laundry. We made a nice dinner, and had a few drank together. We had a great New Year’s Eve, but I was so hormonal. On top of the fact, that New Year’s Eve, makes me uneasy already. It always has. In the blink of the moment, 2016 will be over, and it will be on to another year, whether we are ready for it or not. I hate not knowing what is around the corner, but I was ready for 2017..sort of?
Today, we went to mattress firm, and got our mattress replaced, they are going to deliver it the first weekend of January. Then to IKEA to get a bed frame, which had to be assembled, and it was in 3 big boxes. We didn’t think this through. On the way to Brian and Melissa’s, we had to hold the longest piece steady, in between Drew and I in the car. Every time Drew turned. The longest piece, would move move and hit Drew in the head. It was kind of funny. He had a tender spot on his head, from the box hitting him.
When we arrived at Brian and Melissa’s, Tommy and Megan were already there, and they brought Butters. Brian and Melissa just got a new puppy. It was the cutest thing in the world. I was holding her throughout the night and it definitely gave me puppy fever! I want one so bad. Dinner was yummy and we got so many left overs for the week.
In the morning, we woke up we opened gifts with each other, and then got ready to go to his parents’. We already knew each other’s gifts. I received a FitBit Alta from Drew. I gave Drew wireless headphones that are like mine, but they are black. We relaxed, until it was time to get Grandma. We had to pick Grandma up at 12pm, then go to Oakdale to his parent’s new house.
After we got there, my parents showed up, and it was so nice to have my parents there. We were finally all together on a holiday! Megan and I drank wine together all day. It was nice and relaxing. My mom helped clean up with Aunt Tootsie in the kitchen. I was glad everyone was there. It makes things so much easier, on Drew and I without having to travel back and forth on Christmas. We left around 8pm and took Grandma home. It is hard to get her in and out of the car. Once we got home, we relaxed for the rest of the evening. Another Christmas in the books.
My Christmas Eve traditions have changed over the years. We used to go to my Aunt and Uncle’s in Upper Saint Clair, up until my Aunt and my Grandma passed away. The traditions in the family have changed. So ever since our family traditions changed, we have been going to my parent’s friends’. We went to my parent’s around 1pm, opened gifts then went to Christmas Eve mass. After church, we went home fed the dogs, and then got ready to go to Carol and Fred’s. It was nice, but I am ready to relive the magic of Christmas again. Christmas used to be so magical, when I was a child, and as I became adult it lost its magic in a way to me. I think as an adult, the magic is being with the one’s you love, until children come along, and then you create the magic for them. I am ready for a new Christmas tradition.
Today, I had a hair appointment at 2:30pm. So I went over my parents for a little bit and played with my dogs before my hair appointment. After my hair appointment, I went home and waited for Drew to come home. He was on Christmas break as of today, so I had him until January 3rd. I was so excited to have him home with me for selfish reasons. When he got home, we got ready to go see the new Star Wars movie. I was so excited. My older man crush was in it. Mads! The movie was awesome! I even got a Star Wars shirt! I loved the movie, but Mads died. I love Darth Vader, too!
Today, was the day another interview with CMU. I got to the bus stop and grabbed my coffee, and waited for the bus. It was another cold day! Once I got on the bus, I was the last stop. The bus driver was so cool. I told him why I was going to CMU and he said, that he wishes me good luck, and told me where to pick up the bus when I get done with my interview. It made me feel at ease.
Once I got in the building, I saw a new face at the reception desk. There was a different girl there, then there was at my last interview. I smiled and told her who I was, but that I was super early. She said she will wait to announce me until 15 mins prior to my interview. I changed my shoes, and went to the restroom. Then I decided to make some friendly conversation with the receptionist. I asked her when she started? And she said, I started Monday. I said, oh awesome! I said, “so you must love it?” She said, “Yes, I do.” I said, “that’s great, congratulations.” I saw the scene from mean girls in my head. The one where everyone is fighting around the water fountain the mall, but in reality, it can’t be like that. I turned to walk back to the sitting room. I sat in the same chair, as the one I sat in last time I was there, perhaps it was superstitious of me.
After a while, Lauren, the senior director of alumni engagement greeted me first, then we went into her manager’s office, Mara. Mara was nice, but you could tell she was busy, and this was the last thing she wanted to do, and probably didn’t really seem to care about my answers, but whatever. I answered the questions the best I could, but I can’t believe they lied to me and filled the positions last Monday. I was kind of focused on that and a little let down at that fact, but I had to be in the moment. I didn’t want to mess up this interview. I finished early with them, surprisingly. Lauren escorted me back down to the sitting room and went to tell Lynn that I was ready. Typically, finishing early is not a good sign. I waited for Lynn to greet me. She finally came down and told me she was suffering from a cold, and apologized.
When we went to her office, she told me that she apologized, and wasn’t sure if Gloria told me or not, but they filled the two positions. The receptionist and the data position. I said, no they did not tell me. She said, “Oh they didn’t, I am sorry.” I said, “thank you, but I understand and I am glad that you were able to find the right person for the role.” She said, “Thank you, tell me how you feel about this position? I said, “I feel as though this position is exactly what I was looking for, it combines admin and event coordination in to one positon. She said, I think you would be a good fit and I wanted you to be the first to have the opportunity to interview for it.” I was glad that she kept me in mind. She told me that they are in the beginning stages of this position, so it is going to be a while before we reach our decision. She said, “ I know you have been waiting so patiently and I apologize for that.” I said, “thank you, but I understand that this is how it goes sometimes. Then it was time for me to meet with Gloria. I didn’t get a chance to meet with Gloria last time, because she was sick. Lynn escorted me to the meeting room, where Gloria was waiting for us. Lynn said, Goodbye to me and happy holidays and said, we will be in touch. When she exited, I shook hands with Gloria, and we sat down and had a good conversation about my work history and what I was looking for in a career. She promised to keep me informed and was sorry she didn’t let me know earlier with the last two positions. I said, I understand. I am just glad that I had the opportunity to interview. We left on a good note. I was so exhausted after the interview.
After my facetime with Emily, I made my way to the bus stop in Robinson. I saw the bus in my rear view mirror and of course I missed it. I went to Starbucks and got a big coffee, and made my way back to the bus stop and began the 45-min wait for my bus. I had Tom Petty blasting in my ears, and with the cold the buses weren’t really running on time. It sucked. Once I got on the bus, the bus was cold! It took me forever to get to Oakland, but when I did was so excited and missed working at Pitt, and taking the bus, and just working in general. I can’t wait to get back at it. I was so excited to go back to the music building. Lunch was good. I had so much fun seeing everyone and catching up. I will have to admit. I enjoyed hearing Frank complain about Geri and the way she run things. It was hilarious. I did dodge a bullet with that position, but I would have done it, and I did deserve it based on merit and hard work, but I can’t be bitter about it anymore. I think that might be holding me back some, but I can’t help but still be a little bothered about it. After lunch, I made my way home, but it was rush hour and it was cold. It was going to take forever to get home.
